Century Petroleum Appoints New CEO

The Board of Directors of Century Petroleum Corp. reports that James B. Hersch agreed to join the Company as its Chief Executive Officer and President.

Mr. Hersch, 54, is a 30-year veteran of the petroleum industry who has covered a wide range of technical, operational and managerial positions. In 1981, Mr. Hersch joined Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, where he enjoyed a long and successful career in hydrocarbon exploration. James held numerous management and technical positions with increasing responsibility within Anadarko. He participated in many significant oil and gas discoveries worldwide; endeavors that took him to lead operations in China, Indonesia, the North Sea, the Rockies, Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico (onshore and offshore).

“I have an entrepreneurial spirit and enjoy the thrill of discovery. All industry professional should know what it feels like to make a new hydrocarbon discovery. This mind set makes it a pleasure for me to accept the position of President and CEO of Century Petroleum. I look forward to creating a portfolio of exploratory opportunities which will add to shareholder value and grow the company,” said Hersch.

Mr. Hersch began his professional career in 1975 with investigations of mineral deposits in Appalachia for New Jersey Zinc. In 1978 he joined Exxon USA as senior geologist covering wildcat prospect generation. Mr. Hersch is a licensed Geologist of the State of Texas, a Certified Professional Geologist (AIPG), and a Certified Petroleum Geologist (AAPG).

James received the Outstanding Geological Scientist Award upon graduation from Appalachian State in 1975, with a BA in Geology. He then obtained a full scholarship and an MSC in Economic Geology from the University of Tennessee in 1978.

Commenting on Mr. Hersch’s appointment, Johannes Petersen added: “I am pleased that Jim decided to join Century’s executive management team as our new CEO. I believe he is one of the strongest prospect evaluators in the country and his experience in the exploration and production industry will play a crucial role in the growth of the company.”
