Iran completes drilling 8th well in Turkmenistan

Iran’s North Drilling Company (NDC) is gearing up to drill its ninth oil well in Turkmenistan after the completion of the eighth one, the NDC managing director told ISNA.

Based on a contract signed two years ago, the company is also assigned to start the drilling of the 10th well at hydrocarbon fields of this northern neighbor in April-May 2007 period, Asghar Rafie continued, adding that LUKoil, former British Dragon and a Kazakh firm have yet to receive a reply from NDC on their demand for cooperation.

Moreover, opening of the bid packets on NDC’s rent-to-own call for 10 oilrigs was extended until Monday, January 1, at the request of the parties involved. There are 15 participants in this tender and the winner is to deliver the rigs in two months. This will bring the number of the drilling rigs to 10 inland and five offshore ones, he elaborated.

Drilling operations at Khesht field, central Iran, is postponed from January to early February due to bad weather in the region, the director noted.
