Nonaligned nations preparing to back Iran over uranium enrichment

Austria As Western nations work for a consensus on pressuring Iran to halt its uranium enrichment program, the effort’s not making headway with nonaligned nations.
Diplomats say the 16 International Atomic Energy Agency board members from nonaligned countries will probably issue a joint statement backing Tehran’s right to continue the work.

Iran says it has a right to enrich uranium to produce nuclear energy. The U-S and its allies argue Iran’s stance is a cover for a nuclear weapons program.

The statement would be the latest setback for the Western effort after yesterday’s revelations that China and Russia aren’t prepared to back a unified message insisting that Iran halt enrichment.
