DuPont Says Solar Will Shineadmin
The head of DuPont Co. says the chemicals producer expects sales to solar energy customers will more than triple within the next five years.
Chief Executive Charles O. Holliday Jr., speaking at the Sanford Bernstein Strategic Decisions Conference, said DuPont expects increased demand for renewable energy sources like photovoltaics — or solar — and ethanol made from nonfood sources instead of corn.
The company’s sales to photovoltaic customers within five years will be over $1 billion — up from the current $300 million, he said.
Holliday also noted that DuPont and Genencor, a division of Denmark-based Danisco AS, announced an agreement earlier this month to form DuPont Danisco Cellulosic Ethanol LLC, a 50-50 venture to develop and commercialize technology for making cellulosic ethanol, which he deemed “a $75 billion global market opportunity.”
