Miller Petroleum Announces Successful Well in the Chattanooga Shale

Miller Petroleum, Inc. announced that the latest well in its Lindsay field has initially tested as potentially one of the best natural gas vertical wells that Miller has ever drilled. Targeted with the Chattanooga Shale in mind, the well also shows pay zones in various other formations including the Monteagle and Fort Payne. Stabilized production from this well is anticipated to be between 250 and 350 Mcf per day.

The Devonian Chattanooga Shale is an organic, hydrocarbon rich shale prevalent throughout Eastern Tennessee. This productive formation is located beneath the Mississippian Fort Payne Limestone at a depth of between 3,000 and 4,000 feet. The shale thickness ranges from 80 to over 200 feet and is believed to be the source rock for the hydrocarbons produced from many of the conventional reservoirs in Tennessee. The Chattanooga Shale is the stratagraphic equivalent of the Lower Huron found in Eastern Kentucky and West Virginia.
