Washington Group picked for Piceance project

Engineering firm Washington Group International said Monday the company’s Denver office will be working on a new natural gas production facility in the booming Piceance Basin on Colorado’s Western Slope.

The new facility is being built for multinational Exxon Mobil Corp., based in Irving, Texas. A representative of Exxon Mobil couldn’t be reached for comment.

Washington Group is based in Boise, Idaho, but has a Denver office with nearly 1,000 employees, including about 200 in the oil and gas division.

Washington Group will provide engineering, procurement and construction management services for Exxon Mobil’s Piceance Development Project near Rifle.

Washington Group said it will work on the offsite facilities, including those related to well pads, gathering pipelines, metering stations, separation facilities, interconnects to a gas plant to be installed by others, and an administration/maintenance complex.

Detailed engineering is under way in Washington Group’s Denver office, the company said. Procurement is expected to begin early in 2007 with site mobilization following soon after.
